Karl J. Krapek (Kettering) has worked in management and executive positions for a variety of companies since graduating from Kettering University. He has been president of the Otis Elevator Company, president and CEO of Carrier Corporation, president and CEO of Pratt & Whitney, and president and COO of United Technologies Corporation. More recently, he has served on the Northrop Grumman Board of Directors and the Independent Director of Prudential.
Krapek is dedicated to education. He says, “One of the secrets of business, and really the secret of life, is that in helping others be successful, you become successful.” To that end, he has served on the Educational Foundation of Lambda Chi Alpha, and in 2014 was the recipient of the North-American Interfraternity Conference Foundation’s Outstanding Foundation Volunteer Award. Previously, in 2005, Krapek founded the Hartford Youth Scholars, a nonprofit organization that works to help students from Hartford, Connecticut develop the skills necessary for them to successfully complete their education. The program starts with middle school children and sees students through their college careers.
In 1998, Krapek received Lambda Chi’s Order of Achievement Award.
